The 52-year-old actress showcased months of intense training, which included cardio circuits, weight lifting, swimming, boxing, and Peloton classes. She also dedicated time to rehearsing stunts for her fight scene, recalling that she hadn’t used Elektra’s sais since 2004.

Garner mentioned that when Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy invited her to join the film, she didn’t feel “Marvel fit.” To change that, she ramped up her training regimen, working out twice a day and boxing three times a week.

“Besides trying to convince my kids’ preschool friends that I was secretly a ninja, I hadn’t used Elektra’s sais since 2004. I was fit, but not Marvel fit. As this impossible dream came true, […] we stepped up the training. […] We had #SuperHeroSummer here, spinning sais in the backyard and laughing at our old, sore bodies.”

Additionally, the actress expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to revisit the character of Elektra after so many years, highlighting the joy of working with Reynolds and Levy.

“I didn’t know that Elektra and I needed closure, but Shawn and Ryan did. They are talented in many ways, but seeing and lifting up the people around them is at the top of the list.”
